Zip-lining through the jungle was a highlight of my children’s travels through Costa Rica. The Terraventuras Canopy Tour is a must do for adventurous souls, allowing you to soar through the air from platform to platform, with a unique bird’s eye view of the lush primary rainforest below.
The Canopy Tour picked us up at our house, and drove us to the Terraventuras tour center. We then hopped into a jungle truck, and drove approx. 20 minutes down a dirt road before arriving at our destination.
Upon entering the building, the local guides strap you into your gear and provide some brief safety instructions.
Throughout the tour, local guides with vast knowledge about the area point out various plants and animals. There is some hiking involved, so come prepared to get some exercise, and be sure to wear suitable footwear.
Once the tour begins, you will zip through the treetops of the primary rainforest, traversing a series of ground and aerial platforms. In total, the tour includes 2760 meters of zip line cables, spanning over 23 platforms, and reaching heights of up to 270 feet.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. Watching our little ones test their courage and try new things is one of our favorite things about family travel. Both kids were nervous at the start, but soon were zipping through the treetops all on their own. However, a guide is available to go with the kids (or you) if anyone feels nervous about going by themselves. We found the guides to be friendly, knowledgeable, and well trained, and felt confident in trusting them with our safety from start to finish.
This tour was one of the last adventures we went on during out trip to Costa Rica, but we are so glad we did. Our kids absolutely loved it, and it was one of their favorite experiences of the entire trip.
