In this third post in the series, we asked the following question, which was answered by several top family travel bloggers:
If you could list a favorite family friendly vacation destination that all families should visit at least once in their lifetime, what would it be?
No Back Home Travel: Even after riding an elephant in India, visiting an active volcano in Hawaii, swimming with manatees in Mexico and hiking the Swiss Alps, my son’s favorite trip continues to be our family holiday at Yosemite National Park in California. I have to agree. It is a remarkable place. The absolute beauty, being one with nature, having wild animals (bobcats, deer and bears!) cross your path and making memories at Camp Curry is such an amazing gift for the family. It is a trip that everyone will cherish for their life. We continually meet people who gush with emotion about this American treasure, and who cannot emphasize enough how much impact their childhood visits to Yosemite made on them. A visit to Yosemite National Park should be on every family’s bucket list!

Well Worn Suitcase: New Zealand! We had the most amazing road trip around the North Island, and we highly recommend it as the trip of a lifetime. The diversity of things you can see in a short trip in this country is unmatched. There are activities for every age group, too. We loved Hobbiton and the Maori cultural experience, Hot Water Beach and the waterfalls were incredible, and we kayaked every chance we got. Plus we hiked through redwoods and raced down a luge. Talk about making memories!
The people of New Zealand are as wonderful and welcoming as the scenery (I may be kind of biased, since I married one of them), making this experience like none we have had anywhere else.

Where’s Sharon: US road trip! This probably doesn’t mean much to Americans who can do it anytime, but for us Australians, getting all the way there is a bit of an ordeal. It was so worth it though. We loved every minute and it was just the perfect family vacation with young kids.

Kids Are a Trip: I grew up in Arizona and never even considered visiting Chicago, (let alone living here), but I must say I think all families should visit Chicago at least once in their lifetime (at least in the summer). There is so much to enjoy for kids from the beach to the aquarium, the zoo, the park, free concerts, fabulous restaurants, the Willis Tower SkyDeck, museums (Science and Industry, Notebaert Nature, Chicago History, Field Museum), kids will love them all. Parents will love that the city is easy to navigate, clean, and the people are friendly. It is truly a gem of the Midwest.

The Adventure Ahead: A few summers back, we took a lengthy summer road trip around Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Although I grew up there, my husband and I had not been back to visit since having children. Our trip reminded us how amazing it really is there – from the beautiful beaches of Long Beach in Tofino, the quaint little town of Qualicum Beach, and the laid back city vibe of Victoria, there is enough variety to keep travelers of all ages and preferences engaged. I can think of few road trips that are more perfect for summertime family adventures.

The Educational Tourist: Rome is my top – you have to see it – family friendly vacation spot. There is just everything in the world you could want for a vacation in one spot! The Italians LOVE children so kiddos are welcome everywhere. The food is amazing and it is easy to feed even the pickiest of eaters – gelato? pasta? pizza? YES, ma’am! Art lovers can find an amazing collection of art in the Galleria Borghese. Kiddos of all ages are amazed at the Colosseum and the amazing history. Gladiators? Woohoo! The Vatican City, in spite of its small size, has a helipad, a soccer team and the world’s busiest pharmacy. Vatican City even has its own postage stamps, too. Anyone in your party like the creepy? Then the Capuchin crypt is a must see for you – the walls are literally decorated with the bones of the faithful. Seek out a fountain – the Trevi, which is famous, or the many nasoni which are small water fountains for drinking. Ah, bella Roma – the perfect family friendly vacation destination!

Family Adventure Podcast: That’s tough, because there are way too many incredible places out there, we feel like we’ve barely scratched the surface. We certainly enjoyed the “high profile” epic places we visited like: Rome, Istanbul, and Jerusalem, those would rank high for families. They are SOOO rich in history, loads of activities for all ages of kids, and set up really well to get around, transportation, etc. Plus, they are ‘just’ fought enough for you to get out of your comfort zone, see what another culture feels like, and be left with some amazing experiences.
