Grab a bite at Krusty Burger, stop for a beer at the Duff Brewery, and make a quick trip to the Kwik-E-Mart. Walking into Springfield, USA at Universal Studios is like stepping directly into a nostalgic cartoon.
The statue of the great Jebediah Springfield looks over this perfectly articulated town. Fans of the TV show will delight in the details; this place really feels like cartoon has come to life. We visited this section of Universal Studios during a busier time of the day, and it was still relatively empty. Such a great time to sit back and grab a “Big Pink” donut at Lard Lad, before exploring the town.
The donut did not disappoint. It was the seriously the size of their head, which made it great for sharing. They managed to polish off the whole thing – Homer would be proud.
After consuming that massive amount of processed sugar, we were well energized and ready to hit the town. A trip to Springfield is not complete without a trip to Moe’s Tavern. The sign and outer facade couldn’t have been done more perfectly.
The inside of Moe’s is exactly like you would imagine, complete with an oversized statue of Barney, holding an empty beer mug. The best part was this it was virtually deserted when we visited. We were able to sit at a booth and drink the famous “Flaming Moe”; the non-alcoholic concoction comes is a signature glass, and is actually smoking – certainly something to check off the bucket list.
It is fun to look around the bar and see all of the bits and pieces from different episodes. There is a phone at the end of the bar where Moe answers Bart’s prank calls, and, of course, the iconic Love Tester.
Venturing outside Moe’s Tavern, we came across the next point of interest: The Duff Brewery.
Some of the Duff mascots were waiting outside.
There are some great rides in this section of the park as well, with lineups that are a lot less overwhelming then some of the other areas. The kids loved the roller coaster themed Simpsons Ride, as well as Kang and Kodo’s Twirl and Hurl.
Although the rides were fun, we think the best part of this section of the park was simply strolling around and exploring. There are a lot of excellent food choices here, from the Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck to Cletus’ Chicken Shack. This makes it a great place to stop for lunch, grab a cold Duff, and simply sit back and enjoy watching your favorite cartoon come to life.
